  |   | Germany calling |

|   | Hi lads,
I was an apprentice from 1968 and then worked on Works Orders & Trunk Test in Dial House. I left the GPO in 1974 to earn more money and travel 'abroad' in Germany, along with my mate Bryn Batchelor. I've been in Germany since then and have enjoyed almost every minute. However, I must admit that I sometimes regret it. Through that big step over 40 years ago I lost contact to many dear mates from my home area Blackley and of course from the GPO.
In the meantime I've found lots of old mates from my old school, North Manchester Grammar School, and also from the GPO.
I found this site thankfully through Graham Beesley, John Purdy and of course Mike Norris
If you know/remember me please write back (apart from debt collectors :-) )

Have fun lads & take care
 Pete |

  |   | Yes I remember MUG's |

|   | I'm old enough to remember Motor Uni Group Selectors.

I spent many an hour, usually on OT, doing the gradings on the back of them in Pioneer and Guardian... very fiddly.

They were very fast, probably the pinnacle of electro magnetic switching. |

  |   | Farewell old friend, Lol Williamson's tribute to Robbo |

|   | 'Tony was like a pillar for me during the nine years I was Branch Secretary. When Larry Cooke died a few of us visited his widow. It was not an easy thing to do and I noticed then how good he was at dealing with the situation.

When it had been agreed amongst the branch officers that I would take over I asked him if he would move from his role as Assistant Secretary to take over the welfare duty. He took the role on and did it so well. Tony had found his nitch.

Just occasionally he would return from a home visit and put his hands over his face and emit a moan. I knew from this that he'd had a bad visit. If I could I'd stop what I was doing and take him next door to The Ship. I couldn't say how many times this happened but it must have been well into double figures.

A large branch like ours was can only function if all the officers play their part. Tony truly played his part. On top of this he became a firm friend. I will treasure the memories of conference especially the Wednesday night reception when our wives would come to Blackpool. Farewell old friend.'
