aerial.jpg Re: Paul Reay’s recent death
Harry Bannister wrote to us with a touching account of the legacy of Paul's involvement with gymnastics.

Harry wrote:-

Re Paul Reay’s recent death, anybody he knew him will know that he was highly regarded in the gymnastic world both locally and nationally so much so that in recognition of the work he did, the committee of the North West Regional Gymnastics Association renamed their annual competition this month from The North West Team Challenge to The Paul Reay Team Challenge. His daughter’s Samantha and Stephanie were invited to go along to present the medals and the trophy, a huge honour for them and a very emotional one. Samantha's son Adam also went.

Regards,

Harry

smile.jpg Im on my way
It was on the 4th September 1978 that a 16 year old boy headed for Telephone House on Portland st, Manchester. Little did I know of the twists and turns my career would take on that morning as I reported to the training office at 9am. It’s been a great time, the bad days I can count on one hand – well maybe two! But now I’ve decided to call it a day, some of you already know that I have a place as an undergraduate at Bolton University to study Mechanical Engineering. My official last day will be the 29th September although I will be taking some leave before then. This Company has been good to me and I will miss it, but most of all I will miss the people, all the friends I’ve made over the years. By coincidence the reunion will be on the 29th as well, hopefully I’ll see some of you there.

Kind regards

John Salmon

aerial.jpg So long and thanks for all the fish! says Gary Jackson
 Gary Jackson says:

As some of you will know, I had planned to leave the company under VPLS in April last. Sadly, the scheme was not available to TSO personnel, nor will foreseeable future one be. To that end, I have decided to call it a day. I will be leaving at the end of this month, Friday 29th September.

Over the years I have worked with many people I can honestly say I’ve enjoyed every single day of my working career, especially the last few years in Dial where special bonds have been made that will never be broken!

Mark Hewson adds:

We have looked into booking the Egerton Arms, Gore Street, Salford, for a gallon or two, on the 29th of September, as everyone is very busy at work and has to sign on off, drop off vans, Gary is suggesting a time he will arrive at 4 o’clock, with food about 6 pm, with more drinking and karaoke (if that’s your thing) in the other room, so please come on down and make sure he really has left.

cross.jpg Farewell Tom Hoey
Bernie Rowlands has contacted me to pass on the sad news of the passing away of Tom Hoey. Tom had been suffering for some time with memory and health problems and had deteriorated latterly.

Tom was a TO in LV/D Repeater Station and then became a level 1 manager in Liverpool. In the mid 80s he was promoted to Level 2 and took up the post of LinkLine Liason Officer in Manchester, based in St Andrews House. Many of the Dial House old DSN team will remember him well.

The funeral will be in Crosby on Thursday 31st August at 12noon.
The church is Saint Peter and Pauls, 161 Liverpool Road, Crosby, Liverpool L23 5TE
