notice.jpg The Sad loss of Henry Jepson
I have known my good friend Henry for all of my BT career. He died at the end of August peacefully at home with his family. Henry worked all of his BT life on the ground floor carrier carrier station in Dial House. When I was a teenager I joined the POEU committee when Henry was the Branch Chairman. I became Editor of the Union Mag and Branch Organiser, a naive young man, but Henry became my mentor and coached me in the dark arts of politics.
Through our careers within the business we kept bumping into each other, Henry became Secretary of the local IBTE and was very involved with the regional golf club.
Finally I became Henrys boss but our friendship blossomed through mutual respect. Since our retirement in 1993 I have kept in touch with Henry and his family and will offer my continuing support to his wife Norma.

He was a good man, intellectual with his heart set in the common good.

RIP Henry

So sad to hear of another old colleague's departing. I remember Henry as a softly spoken but firm and intelligent person who was a well respected POEU Chairman, in the days when I used to assist Me Shear printing the mag in the union office 5th floor Dial House.Henry we as always approachable, again sad news.

I was sorry to hear the news regarding Henry. I met him on his return the the Area having just completed his National Service . The world of Manchester Carrier Station was an absolute shock to the lad from Gorton. The first hurdle was Jack Holt and then the unwritten such as like no jeans. Interesting individuals like Alan Miles, Pete Howortth, Jack Scoules and Kieth Gorton Director CSS. The Carrier Station lads played an active part in the politics of the POEU Manchester Internal Branch and it was nice to see that Henry played an active role in NCU. He was a very good footballer his position being Centre Forward. His first car was an unreliable Ford Consul, a passion wagon and the way to some ladies heart. I also remember him meeting Norma and If I could have her address I would like to drop her a line. I lost touch with Henry as I moved on but now I must be one of the few who can still remember Henry and his early days in the Carrier station.
