 | | Farewell old friend, Lol Williamson's tribute to Robbo |
| 'Tony was like a pillar for me during the nine years I was Branch Secretary. When Larry Cooke died a few of us visited his widow. It was not an easy thing to do and I noticed then how good he was at dealing with the situation.
When it had been agreed amongst the branch officers that I would take over I asked him if he would move from his role as Assistant Secretary to take over the welfare duty. He took the role on and did it so well. Tony had found his nitch.
Just occasionally he would return from a home visit and put his hands over his face and emit a moan. I knew from this that he'd had a bad visit. If I could I'd stop what I was doing and take him next door to The Ship. I couldn't say how many times this happened but it must have been well into double figures.
A large branch like ours was can only function if all the officers play their part. Tony truly played his part. On top of this he became a firm friend. I will treasure the memories of conference especially the Wednesday night reception when our wives would come to Blackpool. Farewell old friend.'
